Hadeed participated as a founding partner in the Future Minerals Forum held from January 14 to 16 in Riyadh. This significant event witnessed the announcement of strategic initiatives and investments, along with fruitful meetings that reaffirmed Hadeed’s leading role in shaping the future of the industrial sector.
During the forum, the CEO of the Saudi Iron & Steel Company (Hadeed), Mr. Abdulqader Almubarak, announced one of the key highlights: the vision of the merger between Hadeed and Rajhi Steel. This merger aims to establish a national champion that leads the steel and iron industry, enabling Hadeed to focus on its core operations. He also announced strategic investments exceeding SAR 25 billion in vertical and horizontal growth areas.
These include vertical growth through investments in the mining sector and the production of iron ore pellets, enhancing the added value of supply chains in the steel industry and supporting the Kingdom’s industrial goals. Horizontal growth involves expanding Hadeed’s production of flat and specialized steel products to reach 5 million tons, meeting both local and global market demands.
As part of strengthening strategic partnerships, Hadeed signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Baosteel to develop and train the workforce, foster technical and technological cooperation, exchange expertise, and enhance procurement efficiency. Additionally, another MoU was signed with Vale to explore and implement solutions for decarbonizing the iron and steel industry. This includes evaluating innovative technologies to reduce emissions, adopting clean energy, and improving operational efficiency.
The forum also featured several prominent meetings that reinforced international partnerships. These included a meeting with the Canadian Ambassador, H.E. Jean-Philippe Linteau, where opportunities for cooperation in iron ore projects in Canada were discussed. Another meeting was held with the Mauritanian Minister of Mines and Industry, H.E. Mr. Thiam Tidjani, and the CEO of SNIM, Mr. Mohamed Vall Mohamed Telmidy, to explore ways to enhance strategic partnerships in Takamul mining project.
Hadeed’s booth at the forum’s exhibition also received the honor of hosting the Saudi Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, H.E. This reflects the company’s significant role in industrial transformation and enhancing national capabilities in the industrial sector.
Additionally, Hadeed, represented by Dr. Othman Al-Malki, Vice President, participated in a panel discussion titled “Why Do Green Metals Hubs Struggle to Take off? Should This Be a Concern?.” The session explored challenges related to the green transition in the metals industry, highlighting Hadeed’s role in promoting sustainability through innovation and collaboration.
